Tijana GrujicThe young Serbian-Austrian mezzo-soprano Tijana Grujic (pronounced Ti-yana Gru-yich) is steadily earning international acclaim for her performances of leading operatic roles. Praised by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung for her "sizeable voice with a warm, rich timbre," Ms. Grujic began her association with Landestheater Linz in 2004, where she has performed over 15 roles, including Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Siebel in Faust, La Speranza in L'Orfeo, and Mercédès in Carmen. Upcoming engagements include the First Witch in Dido and Aeneas and Ines in Il Trovatore for the Macau International Music Festival.

Ms. Grujic's 2006/07 engagements with Landestheater Linz included Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Aglaunice in the critically acclaimed production of Philip Glass' Orphée, under the baton of chief conductor Dennis Russell Davies. In addition, she toured France in 2007 with the New European Festival performing The Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte. In the 2007/08 season, Ms. Grujic returned to Landestheater Linz adding a number of important roles to her repertoire, among them Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, The Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Olga in Eugene Onegin.

Ms. Grujic recently appeared with Staatstheater Nürnberg as Rosina, Staatstheater Darmstadt as the Page in Salome, Eduige in Rodelinda, and Smeraldine in The Love of Three Oranges. Her additional performances have included numerous roles with Staatstheater Mainz, and Sesto in Heinrich Graun's Caesar and Cleopatra with the Festival Kammeroper Rheinsberg. She has worked with such stage directors as Oliver Tambosi, Rosamund Gilmore, Beverly Blankenship, and Anouk Nicklisch.

A frequent concert and recital performer, Ms. Grujic's recent appearances include Rossweisse in Die Walküre with Bruckner Orchester Linz, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony as an open-air concert under the baton of Dennis Russell Davies, and her performances with the Saarbrücken New Music Festival were broadcast on radio throughout Europe. Her additional orchestral repertoire includes J.S. Bach's Mass in b minor, Mozart's Mass in c minor, Rossini's Petit messe solonelle, and Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen.

Ms. Grujic was awarded honorary Austrian citizenship in 2008 for outstanding artistic achievements. She earned her music degree with honors at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany under guidance of Professor Claudia Eder. She was a recipient of numerous stipends and awards during her studies in Germany, including Bertelsmann foundation (BMG) grant. Born and raised in a musical family in Belgrade, Serbia, she recently moved to New York and is working there with her voice teacher, Diana Soviero.
