Dieter Kaegi
Director
Born in Zurich, Dieter Kaegi studied Musicology and German Literature there and in Paris. After posts at ENO, Zurich and Düsseldorf, Mr. Kaegi was named Director of Productions at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. Productions as a Director include Der Rosenkavalier and Freischütz in Seattle; Tristan und Isolde, Aida and Der Rosenkavalier in Monte Carlo; Fidelio, Idomeneo and Le Nozze di Figaro in Copenhagen; Der Fliegende Holländer, Guillaume Tell, I Masnadieri, Aida, Rigoletto and Fidelio in Liège; Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Roméo et Juliette in Geneva and Houston; Rigoletto in Orange; Anna Bolena in Metz; Die Lustige Witwe, Barbe-bleue, Bluebeard's Castle and Martinu's Ariane in Strasbourg; Fille du Régiment in St Gallen; The Golden Cockerel in Perm; Aida, Don Carlo, Faust, Otello and Giovanna d'Arco in Lubeck; Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Nancy; Hamlet and Ariadne auf Naxos in Prague; Falstaff at Montepulciano Festival; Till Eulenspiegel in Nantes; Kullervo in Berne; Carmen in Lisbon; Le Nozze di Figaro in Salt Lake City; Don Giovanni in Washington DC; Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Helsinki; Otello in Rovigo; Axur, Re d'Ormus and Lucio Silla in Zürich; Der Freischütz in Ulm; Die Lustige Witwe in Mannheim; Der Fliegende Holländer in Braunschweig; Das Liebesverbot for the Wexford Festival; I Masnadieri, Otello, Gianni Schicchi, Eine Florentinische Tragödie and Zaira in Gelsenkirchen; Aida in Erfurt and Seoul; I Puritani in Nürnberg; and Semiramide for the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, Madrid, Turin and Barcelona. Most recently he directed Der Rosenkavalier in Bern, Ariadne auf Naxos in Bratislava, Lucia Di Lammermoor in Como, Rigoletto in Rovigo and Mefistofele for the Savonlinna Festival in Finland. For Opera Ireland, where he has been the Artistic Director since 1998, he directed Aida, Don Carlo, Faust, Lady Macbeth of Mzensk, Queen of Spades, Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, Ariadne auf Naxos, Falstaff, Martha, Così Fan Tutte and Mazeppa. Plans for 2009/2010 include Der Rosenkavalier in Marseille, Lucio Silla in Nice, Macbeth in Dublin, Pollicino in Florence, and Tannhäuser in Montpellier.
