Shoshanah Marote

A native of New Bedford, MA, rising Verdi mezzo-soprano Shoshanah Marote is one of the most exciting new voices on the American operatic landscape, earning high praise for her unique talent: "Mezzo-soprano Shoshanah Marote's huge, warm voice...was a magnificent surprise in this small role." Ms. Marote began the 2007 season singing Alisa in Connecticut Grand Opera's production of Lucia di Lammermoor. In 2006, she sang the role of Clotilde in Virginia Opera's Norma. She then went on to sing with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra where she was praised for her "clear, rich voice."

As a 2004-2005 Spectrum Artist at Virginia Opera, Ms. Marote covered the roles of Siebel and Marthe in Faust, in addition to performing all over the state in outreach productions of The Pied Piper of Hamlin and Alice Through the Opera Looking Glass. In 2004, she traveled to Los Angeles where she was seen in Baz Luhrmann's Broadway production of La Bohème. She then returned to New York where she performed the role of Suzuki in both the 1904 La Scala version as well as the standard Paris version of Madama Butterfly for the centennial celebration of the Puccini favorite.

Ms. Marote's other credits include: Adalgisa in Norma, the title role in Carmen, Erika in Vanessa, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Virginella in La Perichole, Fosca in Stephen Sondheim's Passion, Mary in The Ballad of Baby Doe and Zelatrice in Suor Angelica. She has sung with the Boston Lyric Opera, Dicapo Opera, Sarasota Opera, Virginia Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, and the State Repertory Opera of New Jersey. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance at the Hartt School, after which she moved to New York City where she currently resides.
